Abstract:For the application of short millimeter wave active phased array, W band high efficiency RF system, low voltage electron gun, 1-D electron beam array planar focusing system and 4-channel planar integrated traveling wave tube( TWT) topology are optimized and designed in this paper. The effectiveness of the RF system design is verified by using the conventional PPM focusing system to make the tube. Two channel beamstick samples are designed and made, and the electron beam transport rate are higher than 85%, which verifies the effectiveness of the 1-D electron beam array planar focusing system. Based on the validated high efficiency RF system, low voltage electron gun and planar focusing system, the topological structure of 4-channel planar integrated TWT is designed, and the sample tube of W band 4-channel planar integrated TWT is developed, the test results show that the electron transport rate of the 4-channel TWTs is higher than 80%, the output power of the 4-channel TWTs is better than 10W, the bandwidth is 6 GHz, and the gain is higher than 25 dB under the same working voltage, which has good electrical performance consistency and provides a new solution for the application of short millimeter wave TWT active phased array.
