Abstract:Aiming at the requirement of wide-angle beam coverage, a design method of a set of shorted patch antennas by means of radiation mode modulation is presented, which corresponds to three beam coverage theories: phased array antenna scanning, single antenna wide-beam coverage and multi-beam switching. Firstly, a single-side wideband shorted patch antenna is designed based on the theory of resonant frequency redistribution, which can be used as a phased array antenna unit with low mutual coupling characteristics. On this basis, the design of E-plane wide beam antenna is realized through the design of symmetrical element and the introduction of differential feeding. In addition, a wideband shorted patch antenna with double-beam characteristics is constructed by using the characteristics of phase center shift and decoupling measures. Through simulation tests, the relative working bandwidths of the three shorted patch antennas proposed in this paper are 11%, 13% and 17% respectively, and the E-plane beam coverage range of the center frequency is 111°, 120° and 124° respectively, which achieves the performance of wide-band beam coverage.
